Busting Traditional Chocolate Myths

Chocolate is enjoyed in every corner of the world. But, certain myths are hampering its  reputation and creating illusions for their consumption. In this blog, find out the truth behind some popular myths that you might have heard before.

Debunking Myths

  1. Consumption of dark chocolate in high quantities is healthy.

It is the biggest myth we all might have heard. Though dark chocolate is nutritious and holds many benefits to your body, having it in high quantities won’t fetch you healthy results.

We have been told to consume all varieties of food in moderation for ages, be it minerals, vitamins, fats, dairy or even the lovely chocolate, to avoid accumulation and maintain a balance.

It is beneficial to consume dark chocolate daily in minimum quantities to ensure that you actually benefit from consuming it and letting it work its magic inside your body.

  1. White chocolate is chocolate.

Though white chocolate is sold under the name of chocolate in the market, it isn’t chocolate. Chocolate is a compound made of Cacao, whereas white chocolate comprises cocoa butter, sugar and milk, giving you only empty calories. Cocoa butter is the fat that comes from the bean of cocoa after passing through machines. White chocolate is fascinating and tasty but not a healthy option to cling on to.

  1. Milk chocolate is inferior chocolate in comparison to dark chocolates.

There are chances you might not have heard about this myth. Milk chocolate is considered to be like white chocolate, which is highly untrue.

Milk chocolate is made of cocoa, milk, cocoa butter and sugar, but the amount of pure cocoa used depends on the kind of end product desired. The quantity of cocoa in it determines the taste of the chocolate bar.

  1. High cocoa percentage means the chocolate is authentic and deliciously nutritious.

Labels often lie! Labels are misleading in terms of the exact amount of cocoa used in the chocolate. The weight is on behalf of the entire chocolate bar, making it challenging to assess the measure per piece. Every chocolate made of cocoa beans and cocoa butter is considered unhealthy for high consumption.

  1. Chocolates cause acne, weight gain, diabetes, tooth decay and cavities.

Calling this a myth can seem bizarre to many people as it is a shared experience. It can be surprising to many but chocolate alone isn’t responsible for weight gain, acne, diabetes, tooth decay and cavities.

What we mean is that there is some ignorance from our side as well. Tooth decay and cavities arise when you don’t brush your teeth after having a sweet snack.

Losing weight is hard for many because they consume more calories than they lose. In fact, according to research, dark chocolate helps lower the BMI, thereby reducing the fat cells of your body.

Dark chocolates are often bitter. Therefore, a diabetic person can consume them in moderation. Opting for a sweeter version of chocolate increases sugar levels, that only if you have it in higher quantities. Sweet chocolates won’t affect your sugar levels if taken in moderation.

Dark chocolates improve your skin and, consuming them in moderation won’t cause you acne. Acne is a result of clogged pores which somehow doesn’t relate much to chocolates.

The key to continuing enjoying chocolates is to consume them in moderation, just like any other food.
